Family Career Community Leaders of America is a club Lowndes High students should join to enhance their high school experience. Meetings take place in A114 on scheduled Thursdays.
“[FCCLA] allows them to develop their leadership skills, get involved in community activities and school events” said by Margie Chatelain.
FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Students Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education. Students often join FCCLA because it makes school more enjoyable, is a great way to meet new people and learn or improve some skills that may already be present in a student. FCCLA also helps to prepare students for the future and it assists in the further development of leadership skills.
FCCLA has many community oriented programs such as Students Taking on Action to help stop violence, Student Body to help students be more aware of their health and Leadership in Action to help change their community.
FCCLA also has many competitive events, such as Students Taking Action with Recognition,STAR, events. In these events, members of FCCLA are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparations. Ruby Etheridge, Lowndes High student involved in FCCLA, was recognized for her project on the subject of dating violence, which she used in the STAR events.
“ FCCLA is life changing. FCCLA involvement can enhance future schooling and careers in a multitude of ways,” said Chatelain.
